'If we can't beat Luton' - Pep Guardiola told his Man City Rodri decision

Manchester City supporters believe Rodri must be granted a rest against Luton Town in the Premier League this weekend.

The influential midfielder has barely missed a match for the Blues this term, save for suspension, and spoke in the aftermath of the midweek Champions League draw with Real Madrid that he needed a rest.

City boss Pep Guardiola said he's no issue with the Spaniard stating his tiredness saying: "I didn't speak with him but if he needs a rest he will have rest." It remains to be seen if Rodri will start against Luton, with the second leg against Madrid coming on Wednesday night. But the City supporters are keen to see the 27-year-old handed a break.

An MEN poll run across our website and dedicated City WhatsApp channel, showed 85 per cent of the near 2,400 responses wanted Rodri to sit out the Etihad clash with Luton Town. And some fans had their say in the comments section of our chief City writer Simon Bajkowski's article on the situation.

Bluesince1955 said: "Need to bear in mind that there is a possibility we will have to play 120 minutes on Wednesday and again on Saturday so if you are not going to rest Rodri against Luton then you are never going to rest him. Seriously if we cannot beat Luton at home with our squad without Rodri we don't deserve to win the PL."

samrodge added: "The only player we can't replace. Please rest him."

Simon Oliver said: "This is what happens when you try and manage with such a small squad. Injuries, fatigue and young players leaving."
