Ideal Trybez defeated Hope Alive 41-39 to win the inaugural Lekki Christmas Basketball Championship, which ended at the weekend in Ajah, Lagos.

The championship saw six teams of over 50 young players displaying outstanding talents in the dunking game for their various teams throughout the fiesta.

Speaking at the end of the championship, the event’s organiser, Timothy Abimbola, said that his vision for putting together the Christmas tourney was to help discover more talents in the sport and encourage more youths to be involved in it.

“The Lekki Christmas Basketball Championship, which is the maiden edition, was organised to help youths in different communities on the Lagos Island challenge themselves in the game of basketball. This enabled more talents to be discovered and pave the way for youths to be engaged in basketball during the Yuletide season.

“There is not much basketball activities on the Island, which is why it is vital for championships to be organised to groom more youths on the dunking game. We plan to make the championship bigger next year,” he said.

Prizes, medals and trophies were presented to outstanding teams and players, who participated in the championship.
