ICC meet before Commonwealth Games to discuss Future Tours Programme
Cricket Council’s (ICC) Annual Conference in Birmingham from July 23-26, TOI has learnt. The meeting will be held just before the Commonwealth Games (CWG) kick off in Birmingham from July 28.
The event will see cricket stage a comeback in CWG with women’s T20 international competition, which will be held between July 29 and August 8, where eight teams, including India, participate. The ICC meeting assumes significance since it could see the representatives of the BCCI propose the extension of the IPL window for two and a half months from the next FTP cycle-from 2024 to 2032.
It’s likely that the Indian Board’s proposal for a bigger window for the IPL receives a green light at the meeting, with the BCCI already in talks with other Boards on this issue. “Members have planned and scheduled their bilateral tours on collective basis including consultation with the BCCI while being fully cognizant of the period of time an extended IPL would take up in the calendar,” revealed a source.
“There isn’t an official ‘window’ for the IPL, but rather a tacit understanding amongst members that international cricket will come down to a trickle during the IPL period,” said a source. Pakistan Cricket Board has objected to the BCCI’s move.
