Ibrahim Sangaré 'mentioned' at Aston Villa as transfer search continues

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré has been 'mentioned in circles' at Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard's search for a midfielder continues

Gerrard was reportedly on a scouting mission at the King Power Stadium several months ago to witness the midfielder in action against Leicester City, where he will have been left impressed after the Ivorian recorded a 88% pass accuracy, won an impressive 63% of his duels and tallied 12 ball recoveries, displaying both his abilities in possession and his defensive capabilities.

Villa have already recruited Boubacar Kamara to add to their options in midfield but are said to be eager to continue the investment in this area of the pitch. Speaking on the possibility of recruiting another midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window, Gerrard said: "It’s still an area we’re looking to strengthen and we want to challenge the lads that have done well for us in the last six months since we’ve been here.

"We want to make it really difficult for people to have guaranteed places. We want to challenge every area of the team to make us stronger."

reporter Ashley Preece provided an update on Villa interest in Sangare when speaking to fans in a Q&A session when one questioned Gerrard's attendance at the Leicester vs PSV game. He said: "Yep, spot on re SG being at PSV-Leicester; Sangare is one that has been mentioned in circles at Villa but nothing more. A lot of interest in him. I don't know if Villa have an interest. I'm sure they would have acted now if they did. We'll have to see."
