Ian Machado Garry stretches unbeaten run at UFC 298
Irish welterweight Ian Machado Garry defeated American Geoff Neal by split decision at UFC 298 in California to stretch his unbeaten run [14-0-0].
It was the Dubliner's first fight since last August, when he earned a unanimous decision victory over Neil Magny in Boston.
Garry put his fingers to his lips as the crowd booed confirmation of his victory over Neal, but the 26-year-old was unmoved.
"I'm winning, undefeated, living the life," he said in the immediate aftermath.
"Keep talking, keep talking. You’re all here, watching me.
"I'm living the dream. Whatever you guys say, whatever you think, it means f**k all. I’m here, I’m going to be a world champion whether you guys want it or not."
In the main event, Ilia Topuria became the new featherweight champion, knocking out Alexander Volkanovski during.
Topuria (14-0-0) took the belt from Volkanovski (26-3-0) by sending him to themat with a punch to the neck area at 3:32 of the second round. It markedTopuria's first victory since June 24, 2023, when he defeated Josh Emmett byunanimous decision.
Volkanovski has now dropped back-to-back fights and three of his past four.
In other action, Robert Whittaker [26-7-0] bested Paulo Costa [14-3-0] by unanimous decision in middleweight action. The cards read 29-28,29-28, and 30-27.
Merab Dvalishvili (17-4-0) prevailed by unanimous decision in a bantamweight fight and Anthony Hernandez (12-2-0) was victorious via submission in a middleweight battle.
