'I went home and cried' - Magaye Gueye makes Everton exit claim and David Moyes admission

Former Everton winger Magaye Gueye has looked back at his spell at the club and opened up on his regrets during his time on Merseyside.

The Blues secured the signing of the youngster from Strasbourg in June 2010 and he would stay at Goodison Park for four years, making 24 league appearances and scoring one goal in that time.

However, Gueye failed to make an impact on the starting line-up consistently during his time with the club and eventually left to join Millwall in 2014.

Looking back on his spell on Merseyside, the former Blue admitted that he cried after his final day with the club and explained why he has regrets over his time.

He told Everton's official matchday programme: "I knew I had the talent to be a great player at Everton.

"I went home and cried after my last day. It was not Everton's fault, it was my fault. If you are not at peace, if you have so many problems outside the pitch, it is hard to perform at that high level.

"That's why I regret that time so much - I couldn't give it my all.

"When I feel good, like in the Sunderland cup match, I can show crazy things on the pitch. But I had a lot of personal problems, family problems, which was why I couldn't show more.

"I had no life experience and it was too much for me."

Gueye also admitted that initially he didn't want to join Everton when he was alerted of their interest as a Strasbourg star.

But influence from former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, who was also a former French Football Federation technical director, was key to his move to the Blues.

"I planned to stay [at Strasbourg] to help the club back to Ligue 2 but they wanted to sell me and told me not to come back to training," he added.
