David de Gea could be forgiven for Ilkay Gundogan's first goal in last season's FA Cup final.

However, he couldn't be forgiven for Gundogan's second, which was the matchwinner.

The circumstances around De Gea's exit were contentious, as some United fans wanted him to sign another deal, while others believed the club needed to move on due to concerns over his distribution and ability to play out from the back with the ball at his feet.

Although Erik ten Hag was initially open to offering De Gea a new contract, the goalkeeper made a string of costly errors against West Ham and Sevilla in the final months of the 2022/23 season and his performance in the FA Cup was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Gundogan's second goal at Wembley ended De Gea's time at the club and, with the eyes of the world watching that game, there was nowhere for the 'keeper to hide.
