'I was a WWE nobody - until The Rock made me a star'

"Super cool" and "awesome" are two unsurprising descriptions of WWE legend The Rock.

The People's Champ is one of the biggest names to ever grace the ring and has had pulses racing since the mid 90s. Dwayne Johnson's star rose so high that he moved into the movie industry and became a bona fide Hollywood star. And such an influence was his stardust, that he managed to also make the careers of many aspiring wrestlers along the way.

Wind back to the mid 00s and The Rock was at the top of his game. Meanwhile Eugene, real name Nicholas Dinsmore, came up to the WWE main roster from their developmental brand Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). He achieved great success at OVW winning the OVW Heavyweight Championship 10 times. After struggling to beat his peers to the main stage Eugene, starring as the nephew of General Manager Eric Bischoff, was booked in a segment with Jonathan Coachman and The Rock in a May 2004 episode of RAW.

Coachman embarrassed Eugene and told him to get out of the ring and leave the WWE. As Eugene walked away, the legend's music hit, and the crowd popped for The Great One. The fans' favourite then walked down to the ring and laid out The Coach with the People's Elbow. Eugene recently looked back on the moment with Action Network and said it was the moment that 'made' him and skyrocketed his three-year run in the WWE.

Nick explained: "He was super cool, and the experience was awesome. That is probably the biggest highlight of my career. I didn’t know the Rock and I may have shaken his hand once, but I hadn’t met him. The Rock came down from LA and when the Rock and Eugene went into the ring together that was in San Diego and the Rock didn’t know me and didn’t have to do it.
