'I understand' - James Hunter now drops significant Sunderland manager update 'despite reports'

James Hunter has now dropped some significant Sunderland manager news in spite of recent reports involving Roy Keane.

According to The Telegraph, the Irishman has been ‘offered’ the vacant manager’s job at the Stadium of Light following the departure of Lee Johnson.

The former Black Cats boss is ‘considering’ a return to his former club, and he is now set for a face-to-face interview.

Taking to Twitter, The Chronicle journalist Hunter has now denied that Keane, or anyone else, has been offered the job at Sunderland, adding that a number of other candidates are still being taken into consideration at this point.

He tweeted: “Despite reports, I understand #safc haven’t offered anyone the head coach’s job at this stage. Numerous candidates still under consideration.”

With their next game coming on Saturday afternoon at home to Doncaster Rovers in League One, followed by Cheltenham Town next midweek, matches are now coming thick and fast for Sunderland, so they need to get a new manager in as soon as possible.

If a deal for Keane looks the most advanced at this stage, then the board should not hesitate and should bring him in fast, so that he has enough time to implement his ideas and hopefully kickstart an automatic promotion push.

Fans of a club as big as Sunderland will simply not accept another season in the third tier of English football, so the appointment needs to be made quickly.
