I spotted moment of Celtic unity rubbed in Rangers' face that convinced me Treble could be ON

If age does not necessarily bring wisdom it does allow a clearer understanding of how things were back in the day as opposed to how they are in the here and now.

My journalistic understanding of the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers stretches back 54 years and allows me, on the basis of personal experience, to come to the conclusion we are living in unprecedented times. I am not necessarily talking about the teams on the park. It is the feeling that I have never known a time when the clubs were separated by such a distance in terms of their corporate strength.

Celtic have just broken the club’s transfer record to bring in Arne Engels from Augsburg and yet they still made a profit on deals done during the summertime window. Rangers’ policy is, as declared by the manager, Philippe Clement, that players must be sold before others can be bought.

Record signings notwithstanding, Celtic still have cash reserves in the bank that could easily be described as eye-watering. They also have, and have had for decades, the reassuring figure of their principal shareholder, and de facto owner, Dermot Desmond in the background. And his liking for Celtic finishing above Rangers has never been open to dispute.

Likewise, Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic as manager last season with dissenting voices in the background. It’s undeniably true. But he has reclaimed the iconic status he had when the manager was delivering an Invincible Treble during his first time at the club. And there must be a possibility of lightning striking twice this season.
