'I saw Dier do that' - Spurs journalist reveals what he spotted this week

Eric Dier was spotted venting his frustrations at referee Graham Scott on Wednesday night after Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat in the Premier League. 

That is according to the Spurs correspondent for The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke, who was reporting from Turf Moor as Burnley pipped Spurs to the points.

Antonio Conte’s frustrations after the game were made evident in his fiery press conference, and it seems there was also a lot of tension left on the pitch in Lancashire.

Having netted three goals against Manchester City just a matter of days prior, the Lilywhites failed to find the back of the net against a Burnley side battling away at the foot of the table.

The Clarets have a relatively good defensive record for a side in their position, however, for Spurs to fail in beating Nick Pope highlights the club’s recent difficulties in the Premier League.

And it was apparent their attacking issues had left Dier furious with the referee as he voiced his case for a potentially missed penalty claim by the referee, as revealed by Pitt-Brooke on The View From The Lane podcast.

He said: “So at the final whistle, the two things I noticed. First was Eric Dier go over to the referee and have a long conversation with the referee, which I think was about a non-awarded penalty.

“It was when I think [Heung-min] Son got a shot away and was cleared out by a defender trying to block the ball. And it was one of those things obviously, it should be a foul but it’s rarely given as a penalty. So I saw Dier do that.”

We are not surprised by Dier’s frustrations following the full-time whistle, however, we would have expected that frustration to be aimed more at Tottenham’s display.
