'I responded to a TikTok advert looking for work - and lost £6,000'

A jobseeker searching for work after losing his job as an Amazon delivery driver lost thousands of pounds after responding to a TikTok advert. Omar Al Selk submitted an application after spotting the advert for employment with no experience required.

The 22-year-old received a WhatsApp message a few days later, claiming he could receive up to £4,650 a month plus commission for just an hour of work per day. Omar says he was sceptical at first, but went on to attend a 40-minute training course before being added to a WhatsApp group and sent a series of tasks.

But he was asked to send money in cryptocurrency before each one - and he went on to lose £6,000. "I never thought that I would fall for something like this, but I did," Omar said.

"I saw a link on TikTok and thought why not, I'll just apply because it said no experience needed I thought let's just give it a go, it's not going to harm me. When you are out of work it's easy to fall into these traps because you really need a job, even if you are not going to get paid that much, it will be enough to feed me and pay the bills."

The message - seen by the Press Association - claimed to be sent by a recruiter for Clickaine, a Czech marketing company. Omar, from Leicester, was told the firm was looking to hire a 'data provider user'.

Prague-based Clickaine has denied any knowledge of the situation, stating they never hired or had any contact with Omar. They added that it appears to be a fraudulent scheme where individuals have unlawfully used the company's name
