Their performance, in comparison to what they had produced at Palace four days earlier, was uninspiring and disjointed. They failed to assert themselves after getting their noses in front, only chucking everything at the Twente defence as time started to run out.

The theme with United, despite the season still being young, is once again feeling familiar, with Erik ten Hag's side taking one step forward and two steps back. Their inconsistency, both in terms of results and performances, is already a concern this term.

However, it is a problem Ten Hag has long since been aware of, raising concerns about inconsistency levels after being beaten 3-0 at home by Bournemouth last December, just three days after beating Chelsea 2-1.
