I played with and under Neil Lennon and he should be back in dug-out but Billy Davies is my all-time BEST boss

Ex Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson admits he would love to see former boss and team-mate Neil Lennon make a dug-out return - but revealed Billy Davies is the best manager he ever played under.

Wilson spent two years at Parkhead and kept Lionel Messi quiet on the historic night the Hoops rocked the mighty Barcelona in the Champions League. The 39-year-old is still turning out for English minnows Ilkeston Town and opened up on his playing career. And the former defender hopes his old Celtic boss Lennon finds a route back into management having been out of work since he was sacked by Rapid Bucharest after just six games in charge of the Romanians.

Lennon also managed Hibs in the Scottish Premiership who he played with at Nottingham Forest, his hometown club. And Wilson admitted working under Davies at his hometown club convinced him he was his best ever manager.

He told Gambling.com: “I played with Lenny a little bit before he retired, when he came to Forest. So I knew him a little bit personally as well. Playing with him was good, he was coming towards the end of his career so he didn't really want to run much. But he was a great player in his day.

“Lenny is a great manager too. I’ve done so many podcasts and interviews, where they always ask ‘who’s the best manager you’ve played under?’ etc. Neil Lennon is the best man-manager that I’ve played under. To me personally, his man-management was brilliant.

“He's a great manager and he’s proved himself. Obviously he's had his ups and downs since he's left Celtic, with a few clubs that he's been at, but that's not going to change him as a manager.
