'I paid £120 for a Fortnum and Mason picnic hamper at RHS Tatton Flower Show - this is what was inside'

The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and there were acres upon acres of green, green grass to sit on. It was the near perfect picnic conditions as I headed to The RHS Show at Tatton Park on its opening day this week.

Blame the sunshine, or the fact this is the last time the RHS are heading annually to Tatton (it won't be back for another three years), but you could say I got rather carried away in this sun-soaked moment.

For I decided to part with the princely sum of £120 for a picnic basket for two from posh London department store Fortnum and Mason. They've set up stall just by the main entrance to the 'garden party of the north' at Tatton and are doing a roaring trade in the posh picnics - this isn't even the most expensive one as you could have a champagne version for £195.

The retailer is known for its lavish London food hall and sumptuous wicker hampers, and here at Tatton they are serving up their special picnic bags filled with a four course lunch in their signature "eau de nil" bluey green colourway.

Even with that massive price tag, these picnic hampers are in high demand this week at the RHS Show. I spotted lots of happy folk sitting on their checked blankets tucking in to the fodder from their green F&M picnic bags, chin-chinning with their wine glasses, all around the Tatton Park showground on the sunny members day on Wednesday.

And yes, I wanted to be like one of them, OK? When I first approached the stall to buy one I was told they’d all sold out. Turns out the savvy RHS ticket holders had reserved their picnics online before they ventured out.
