I ordered a big shop of Sainsbury's Aldi Price Match items and found a big perk to ordering online

With food bills rising it's unsurprising that supermarkets are vying for our attention and customers are shopping around.

Most people are aware of Tesco's Aldi Price Match, where the retailer sets the same prices as many products in the budget store.

Now Sainsbury's has done the same and while its list of price match products isn't quite as extensive as Tesco's, which matches around 650 items, there are still around 250 products where prices are like-for-like.

This includes 150 fresh Sainsbury's own-label and branded products, plus other grocery and frozen products in its larger stores.

There are all kinds of items included in the price match, from essentials such as bread, eggs and milk, to biscuits, cakes, booze and even nappies.

We bought just over 30 items from each shop to compare. While some prices didn't seem to tally up, it was simply because of a slight difference in weight.

Having initially felt ripped-off by Aldi's considerably smaller cheese and tomato pizza, I soon realised that while the 300g 12" costs 99p, Sainsbury's price match version is bigger - 329g - but costs £1.09.

The same could be said for the Jaffa Cakes, with Aldi's 300g box costing 85p, next to Sainsbury's 282g box for 80p.

Appearance of the fruit differed somewhat, but neither retailer trumped the other as while Aldi's easy peelers looked way more appealing than Sainsbury's Imperfectly Tasty pack, yet it was vice versa with the honeydew melons.

While the melon was much of a muchness, Aldi's 600g pack of just six peelers were considerably tastier than Sainsbury's 600g pack of 15 tiddlers.

Best before dates varied too - sometimes vastly
