I'm worried Hibs transfer problem could POISON the dressing room but they've made a start on solution - Tam McManus

Hibs are starting to flex their muscles in the transfer market and it’s exciting to see - but there’s one big problem that worries me.

Nine summer arrivals is good business and David Gray is definitely getting his own players in. He has no excuses now. He’s gone right through the spine of the team and almost every area has been covered by signings.

But my concern is that he desperately needs to get a few out because there’s players there sitting on nice contracts and not wanting to budge. He’s found himself with a squad of Chelsea proportions. They’ll need to build another changing room at East Mains at this rate. That brings problems. It’s the result of changing managers so often. New bosses always want to bring in their own players, they don’t want to be left with someone else’s squad especially when that squad has essentially got the last guy his jotters.

You end up with a bloated squad and a lot of players in the dressing room who pretty quickly realise they’re not part of the plans. That can poison the dressing room. Having frustrated players kicking about the club who maybe don’t like the manager because of the situation is always a problem.

I remember it like that in the season we had three managers in a season - Alex McLeish, Franck Sauzee and then Bobby Williamson. Franck had brought a few French signings in after replacing Alex but he only lasted couple of months then Bobby ended up with lots of players he didn’t fancy.

It does nobody any favours. You want 20-25 players in your squad all with a positive mindset and ready to fight to be in the team.
