'I'm told' - Insider reveals PIF now to 'push hard' to sign 'unique' star for Newcastle

Newcastle United are now set to push hard for Jesse Lingard ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Dean Jones.

The transfer insider was speaking on the latest Touchline Talk show with the 29-year-old’s time at Manchester United seemingly coming to an end.

Lingard is now playing into the final weeks of his deal at Old Trafford and recent reports have suggested he is now looking to explore his options with no interest in remaining a United player.

Newcastle were heavily linked with a possible move for Lingard in January, however, it is believed the Red Devils blocked a move to keep Lingard available for selection by Ralf Rangnick.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are also believed to be interested in signing Lingard as a free agent, but Jones claimed the Magpies are ready to make their move:

“Newcastle are going to push hard to sign him, I’m told. Like he is still one of the top priorities. A few people have played that down recently. But I wouldn’t be doing that. I think that there is a possibility that the Newcastle was one he’ll consider.”

There is no doubting it has been a difficult year for him at Old Trafford, however, the last time he played consistent football he proved he still has a lot to offer.

And if Newcastle can land the Lingard who shone at West Ham not too long ago then it would certainly provide them an upgrade with Ryan Fraser and Miguel Almiron only netting three goals
