'I'm not sure' - Manchester United sent Diego Simeone warning as manager hunt continues

Premier League-winning defender Wes Brown has admitted he's unsure whether Diego Simeone would be the right man to take charge of Manchester United.

The Atletico Madrid manager led his side to victory at Old Trafford in the Champions League earlier this month, meaning United's only chance of qualifying for next season's edition of the competition is via a top-four finish in the Premier League. The Manchester Evening News understands Erik ten Hag is the preferred candidate and United plan further talks with the Eredivisie tactician.

Mauricio Pochettino has also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, while Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui and Spain head coach Luis Enrique have seen their names thrown into the mix. Roy Keane recently suggested Simeone would be a good fit for United, but Brown isn't so sure.

"I'm not sure we'll like the way Simeone plays," he said, speaking on Manchester United's The Debate. "But he's a great manager, he's got his team playing how he likes, he's gone in that's how he plays.

"He's got all the players understanding that and they win games by it. Whether that's ideal for Manchester United - I don't think it is. But at the same time, he is a class manager."
