Everyone knows that John McGinn's brothers Stephen and Paul played top flight football. But so did their cousin.

Kieran Gibbons made one appearance for Aberdeen under Derek McInnes in 2014, before going on to enjoy spells with Livingston, Cowdenbeath, Stenhousemuir and Peterhead - as well as stint working with Simon Ferry at Open Goal Broomhill. However he has now revealed that his own coach booed him in training at Livingston, after hitting the headlines for a crunching tackle against Rangers back in 2015.

During a drab Petrofac Training Cup clash between the Gers and Lions at Ibrox, Gibbons found himself being slammed by Rangers boss Mark Warburton for a late challenge on Tottenham loanee Nathan Oduwa after only 12 seconds - with the English boss using it as an example as he called for his players to be given more protection by referees.

That thrust the 20-year-old Gibbons into the spotlight, and he says that David Hopkin prepared him for the next game against Rangers by booing him every time he touched the ball in training to get him used to a hostile reception. Gibbons, now 30 and playing for Lowland League Broomhill, told Lomond Radio: "Mark Warburton’s post-match interview was all about my tackle. I understand why he does it, it’s obviously a bit of deflection. The tackle wasn’t great, but it wasn’t like I went in maliciously to hurt him.

"They were really poor that day and the BBC Alba coverage just kept going back to this tackle, back to this tackle and back to this tackle. Obviously I didn’t think anything of it at the time.
