'I'm a paramedic and was sexually assaulted on the job'

‘I was so shocked because it was so unexpected – I was there to help him.’ Charlotte Miller was just doing her job as a paramedic on a busy winter evening when the unimaginable happened.

Charlotte, originally from Bury, was helping a patient when she was suddenly grabbed and groped by him in the middle of her work in a sickening sexual assault. The patient then exposed himself, leaving Charlotte and her crewmate ‘terrified and vulnerable’.

The paramedic, who now works for London Ambulance Service, has bravely waived her right to anonymity which is automatically granted to victims of sexual offences, in order to speak out. She hopes it will encourage others to report similar crimes.

“My crewmate and I were encouraging the patient to get into the ambulance so we could assess him but he grabbed my crotch and tried to grab me again,” Charlotte said of the incident on October 23, 2022. “Then he pulled his pants down.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was asking myself if it was really happened. I was frightened and scared. I think the reason I was so shocked was because it was so unexpected – I was there to help him.”

Newly released footage from an ambulance video camera, released by London Ambulance Service, shows Charlotte on her radio calling the police moments after the assault. Police officers arrived in less than a minute and arrested 35-year-old Naveed Ahmed after the incident in Edgware Road last October.

Charlotte added: “The whole thing was sickening and disgusting and really made us feel quite vulnerable.”
