'I'm a flight attendant – there's a surprising reason you shouldn't wear shorts on plane'

With the UK's gloomy weather showing no signs of improvement, many are eagerly anticipating their sun-kissed holidays. However, when it comes to dressing for the airport, several flight attendants advise against dressing for the destination, as planes can get quite chilly.

But a former flight attendant has shared that there's also a crucial safety reason for wearing long trousers and covering your legs during flights. Taking to TikTok under the username drakepooley, Drake warned: "Obviously you think that's a joke, but what I'm saying is do not wear shorts. The reason being, if you have an emergency and you need to use the slide, you will literally burn your skin off."

Drake shared his experience with Emirates flight training, where he tested different aircraft slides. "This was the best word of advice is that, especially in an emergency when you're trying to get out quick, this stuff [on the slide] is designed to get you down as fast as possible, and it burns.

"Like to the point where, if you're sliding down, you are supposed to keep your hands on top of your thighs because if you try to use your hands on the slide, your hands will get burned and your skin could get burned off."

He went on to stress the need to wear long trousers on an aircraft as a precautionary measure. "Obviously, no one wants to get into an emergency, but this could save you a lot of pain."

The advice offered by Drake was well-received, yet it also sparked a debate regarding the clothing flight attendants wear.

"Wait so why do some flight attendants uniforms require skirts then? I know they typically also require pantyhose but is that enough fabric to prevent the burns you're talking about?", asked one curious viewer.
