I know Pep Guardiola couldn't fix Man United mess – Ruben Amorim has so many problems

Emmanuel Petit believes that Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta wouldn't be able to sort out the "mess" of Manchester United right now.

While appearing on the talkSPORT YouTube channel in October - ahead of Ruben Amorim's appointment at the club - Petit discussed the issues at United as they began the season in poor form. Amorim is faced with a huge task at Old Trafford, as he takes up his role with the Red Devils next week on November 11.

Petit spoke before Amorim's arrival, although his comments are timeless, despite there being a new coach ready to take the reins. He said: "For the last 15 years, how many managers has there been at Manchester United? Six? Seven. So, who was the best manager, I think it was Mourinho because he won the Europa League trophy but that was the last time. And Mourinho has a big, big ego as well, so he could manage that kind of personality in the dressing room.

"I'm not sure that Graham Potter actually can manage the mess of the dressing room. I think he's not, for me, the right man actually.

"I think there is so many troubles at Manchester United, if you look on the pitch, it's terrible to watch, but if you look at the work they've done so far for the last couple of years, Manchester United, especially in the transfer market, they've been wrong for ages."

Petit then went on to say that successful Manchester City manager Guardiola - and Arsenal boss Arteta - couldn't even sort out the problems at United. He added: "So, maybe you have to change the manager, if you put Guardiola, the best manager, or even Arteta, on the bench
