'I heard a whisper' - Journalist claims 26 y/o 'could be on his way' to West Ham

Reporter Alex Crook has claimed on TalkSport that West Ham United are interested in signing Josh Brownhill.

The Hammers have made a couple of signings this summer in the form of Nayef Aguerd and ex-loanee Alphonse Areola from Ligue 1, however, they will surely be looking to make more moves this summer when the right deals come about.

Someone they’ve been linked with recently is Burnley midfielder Brownhill, with the midfielder dropping back down into the Championship after two and a half seasons in the top flight. He would add to the squad depth in the Hammers’ ranks, especially after losing Mark Noble.

Crook, who claimed the £6.3m-rated Brownhill was available on a free despite the 26-year-old appearing to have a contract until 2024, believes that West Ham are interested in the midfielder.

He said: “I heard a whisper earlier this week – I’ve not been able to completely back it up, yet – but Josh Brownhill from Burnley could also be on his way to West Ham, I think he’s available on a free transfer.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham looking at Brownhill…

While the thought of signing Brownhill might not get the pulses racing within the West Ham fanbase, he would be a very capable squad player that would surely get valuable minutes across the four competitions the Hammers are set to compete in during the upcoming season.

It would be highly unlikely that Brownhill would get a start ahead of Declan Rice or Tomas Soucek in most Premier League games, however, in the Europa Conference League or certain top-flight matches, he could well step in and do a decent job as he did over 80 times for Burnley.
