'I don’t think he’s ready' – Liverpool legend gives verdict on Kobbie Mainoo for Euros

Manchester United prodigy Kobbie Mainoo has been told a Euro 2024 call-up would be premature ahead of Gareth Southgate's England squad selection.

Despite making a significant impact at Old Trafford this season, Liverpool icon Graeme Souness believes the young Mainoo "isn't ready" to participate in Germany this summer. The Red Devils midfielder has made his mark in Erik ten Hag's first team in recent months, earning high praise being quickly incorporated into Southgate's England set-up.

Mainoo was only 18 when he debuted for the Three Lions in March, and many are backing the teenager to make the trip. However, Anfield legend Souness, 71, and Simon Jordan suggest it's too early to discuss Mainoo attending his first international tournament, reported the Mirror.

"You've got the young lad Mainoo coming through," Jordan, 56, suggested to his Simon and Souness co-host, who quickly responded: "Not ready yet. . .you would say [to] play for England?"

Fellow pundit Jordan retorted: "I'm going to say, is it a conversation that should be had given the fact he's gotten into the England squad? Is he ready to go with Southgate to the tournament? Is it worth him going there to get his teeth cut and be part of an environment, or are all you all business for this tournament, if you're Gareth Southgate?"
