'I don't see it' - Wayne Rooney makes claim about Man United dressing room weakness

Wayne Rooney believes there is an absence of leaders in Manchester United's dressing room.

United have endured a turbulent decade since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement and the last few seasons have been no different.

Erik ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first year in charge but his second year at Old Trafford saw United finish eighth in the Premier League table.

Although Ten Hag salvaged something from the campaign by winning the FA Cup, his future remains uncertain and outgoings from the playing squad are guaranteed. Ten Hag has faced scrutiny and his players have been questioned. United's dressing room has been accused of lacking leaders in the past and Rooney thinks that issue remains.

Harry Maguire was stripped of the captain's armband last summer and Bruno Fernandes was given the responsibility, but Rooney believes there should be a number of leaders.

In an interview with The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, Rooney said: “Firstly, I would say you need around five players in a dressing room that can lead a team.

"One thing I would say with Manchester United now is, I look at the team and you’re still asking questions about who the leader is. I know Bruno is the captain, but who are the leaders there.

“I said this a few weeks ago, when Marcus Rashford was getting stick for his body language. I think he’s always been like that. I don’t think he has ever been a big talker on the pitch.

"When he is going through a tough moment, or you want him to work a little bit harder, that is where the senior players have got to demand that from him.
