I don’t regret snubbing Man United for Arsenal – one thing played a big part in my decision
Gabriel Magalhaes has revealed that it was the support from Arsenal fans which swayed his decision to turn down a move to Manchester United.
The 27-year-old centre-back has become a key figure for Arsenal, earning recognition as one of the top defenders in world football. His rise to prominence began at French side Lille, where his performances attracted attention from several top Premier League clubs.
Despite interest from the Red Devils, Gabriel disclosed that the encouragement he received from Arsenal supporters played a pivotal role in his choice to head to north London instead.
Speaking to talkSPORT in 2021, Gabriel shared: "I'd always dreamt of playing in the Premier League, and everyone knows Arsenal as one of the top clubs in the world. It's true that Manchester United were also interested, but I was always focused on joining Arsenal.
"The fans sent some messages in the build-up and that was very important in my decision. Having been here for some time now, I am certain I made the right choice. I am very happy here, I've made some fantastic friendships and I hope we can win some trophies."
Although he hasn't yet secured any major trophies with the Gunners, he's formed a formidable defensive duo with William Saliba, significantly strengthening Arsenal's defence.
The French international, who came up against Gabriel during his time with St-Etienne in Ligue 1, talked about their collaboration and the bond they've formed both on and off the pitch.
