'I don't have any sympathy cards' - Ange Postecoglou's brutal response to Man United question
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou refused to show any sympathy for Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim after he was forced to name eight youngsters on the bench on Sunday afternoon.
United were decimated by injury and illness-related issues ahead of their 1-0 defeat to Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meaning Victor Lindelof was the only senior player named among the substitutes in the capital.
Amorim named Elyh Harrison, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse and Chido Obi alongside Lindelof and Ayden Heaven, who was recruited from Arsenal in the January transfer window, on the bench.
The United head coach was reluctant to turn to his bench throughout the contest, only calling on Obi in the closing stages to make his debut for the club. He replaced Casemiro with 91 minutes on the clock.
Spurs have been hampered by injury issues in recent months. However, they are beginning to welcome back some key players, including James Maddison, who scored the winner on Sunday.
Postecoglou has faced plenty of criticism in recent weeks, with many refusing to acknowledge Spurs' injury crisis, meaning the Australian offered an interesting answer when asked if he had any sympathy for Amorim in his post-match press conference.
"If I check my office, I don't have any sympathy cards from other managers, so that hasn't happened," said Postecoglou. "There's definitely a few.
"I could see Ruben there, players out of position, kids on the bench. Well, welcome to my world. But that's for one game. Now do that for two months.
