'I don't deserve to be in the semis': Fritz quashes semi-final talk

American star Taylor Fritz has claimed doesn't 'deserve to be in the' Wimbledon semi-final after Rafael Nadal's withdrawal from the competition.

The Spaniard's abdominal tear means that Nick Kyrgios will progress to his first ever Grand Slam final where he will face either Novak Djokovic or British No. 1 Cameron Norrie in a contest for the championship. 

Following the news, fans were quick to suggest Fritz deserves a spot in the semi-final but the world No. 14 shut down those suggestions in a comment on social media.

Fritz took to social media to thank fans for their support during his stint in the British grand slam, before one user suggested that they 'should have let you go forward'.

The American responded swiftly and wrote: 'Nah not looking for handouts, if I couldn't beat him [Nadal] then I don't deserve to be in the semis...simple as that'.

The 36-year-old Spaniard completed a remarkable comeback against Fritz in a five-set duel on Centre Court after taking a medical timeout midway through the second set - before withdrawing from the competition on Thursday afternoon.

After the news broke, one fan online wrote: 'Nadal pulled out of Wimbledon, feel like Taylor Fritz has been hard done by there...should let him play Kyrgios who is getting a free ride to the final'

'Unfair that Kyrgios gets extra rest till the final, Rafas place should automatically go to Fritz,' another user claimed.

Another tweeted: 'I feel like it was a bit unfair to Fritz to pull out now and just allow Kyrgios to waltz to the final'.

Nadal announced he was pulling out after a 45 minute practice session earlier in the day in which he clearly looked hampered.
