“I do think we should let him go” – Sheffield United fan pundit issues frank verdict on 29-year-old’s future at Bramall Lane

Joining Millwall on loan on Deadline Day, it remains to be seen what the future may hold for Luke Freeman at Sheffield United. 

The 29-year-old’s contract at Bramall Lane expires at the end of the campaign, and with the midfielder expected to be out of action – through injury – up until then, his time in Yorkshire could come to an end.

The Lions managed to fight off interest from Luton Town to secure a loan deal with the Blades late on Deadline Day, however, he has almost immediately been ruled for what could be the remainder of the season.

Issuing his prediction on whether Freeman has a future at Bramall Lane, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Owian Wyse said: “As for Luke Freeman, I don’t think he does have a future at United.

“He has only played 15 times for us in nearly three years now. He has been loaned out twice.

” I don’t think he fits into the system that Heckingbottom is playing at the moment, and I know we do play with an attacking midfielder, but I think players like Gibbs-White and Ndiaye, they work slightly harder than Freeman does, so they help out defensively, as well as going forwards. 

“I think Freeman is o very one-footed as well. He’s always chopping onto his left. I don’t think he has the quality, especially if we go up.

“I do think we should let him go at the end of the season if the right offer comes in for him.” 

The verdict 

When available, Freeman has really struggled to cement a starting spot at Bramall Lane, and whilst his loan move to Millwall could have helped reignite his Sheffield United career, injury has struck and has damaged his chances.
