'I added 400 calories a day to my diet and it totally changed my body'

Many of us wrongly assume that you need to eat less in order to tone up.

But food is fuel – and failing to consume enough calories can make it a lot trickier to work out in the gym. That's exactly the problem Lizzy High ran into in the past.

But the 22-year-old fitness coach, from North London, revealed just how much progress she was able to make when she added 400 calories to her diet each day.

To demonstrate her point, Lizzy posted before-and-after snaps showing the evolution of her body after increasing her daily intake of food.

She explained that as long as you're working out and burning enough calories, you can eat much more than you might expect. It's probably advisable to choose healthy options where you can, but the odd treat here or there shouldn't hurt either.

Lizzy emphasised the importance of maintaining a good balance when it comes to diet. She explained: "Unless you go into a calorie surplus (eating over your maintenance calories) then you won't gain fat. Instead, post fat loss, it's essential to get your food back up to maintenance.

"So what I recommend doing is a reverse diet, like I did here. This is where you slowly increase your calories each week to limit fat gain but you'll have more energy, hunger will reduced, you'll be able to maintain your physique, you'll feel stronger. Food is fuel."

Many loved Lizzy's positive message – and are pleased to know you don't need to restrict yourself to get results. One gushed: "Love this."

Another said: "You look great." Meanwhile, a third simply said: "Amazing."
