Hythe Town manager Steve Watt says FA Trophy fourth-round draw means nothing | Cannons must get past Whitehawk first

Hythe boss Steve Watt says the FA Trophy fourth-round draw is irrelevant unless they get the job done against Whitehawk.

The teams are due to meet at Reachfields tonight (7.45pm) after Saturday’s game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

A home tie against National League North club Chorley awaits the winners of the third-round clash but Hythe aren’t getting ahead of themselves.

They know what’s at stake but need to find a way past Isthmian Premier Whitehawk first.

“We’ve got another home game if we get through but it means nothing because we’re not through yet,” said Watt.

“The draw is irrelevant because we’ve got to win the game.

“So it’s not a case of ‘We’ve got them next’.

“We haven’t got anyone next because we haven’t won the game.

“With cup draws, I’m not bothered what’s next because I don’t think players should need extra incentive to go and win a game of football.

“It shouldn’t be, ‘If we win this we’ve got them next’. No.

“Every game you play, you should try and win – simple as that.

“As far as I’m concerned we’re not in the fourth round, we’re still in the third, and we’ve got a really big job to do.

“Let’s not take anything away from the draw.

“You listen to it with excitement because you’re thinking of who you could get.

“I’m not taking away from that but, at the end of the day, we’re only in the third round.

“We haven’t earned the right to play Chorley yet, so we’ve got to go out and do that.

“We can’t take our eye off the ball.

“But, whoever is fortunate enough to win out of us and Whitehawk, it sets up another game at home with the potential to go through to the last 16.”

Tonight’s tie goes straight to penalties in the event of a draw.
