Hythe Town manager Ira Jackson feels he’s reached a point where everyone’s in it together as Cannons youngsters show their fight

Hythe manager Ira Jackson feels he finally has a squad who are all pulling in the same direction.

There have been various comings and goings at Reachfields since the start of the season, with some players released and others deciding to leave after being dropped.

It’s left the Cannons with a group who all want to be at the club and it showed in their performance against Peacehaven & Telscombe in the FA Vase first round on Saturday.

An excellent display was rewarded when substitute Tomi Adegbulugbe scored the only goal in the 87th minute, setting up a home tie against Burnham on November 8.

Victory ended a run of four defeats and Jackson couldn’t have been happier with his young side.

The average age of the starting XI was just 21.

“We had a good chat with the players,” said Jackson, whose side played well again in a 1-0 Southern Counties East defeat at Bearsted on Tuesday night.

“We just tried to get across that there has to be a turning point and to really find out from them what it is they’re feeling?

“I’ve been a player and on the pitch you might feel something different to what the manager’s saying sometimes.

“The gaffer might be saying it’s so simple, so easy and the players on the pitch might feel that they can’t win.

“But they were all in high spirits and I think the togetherness and the big calls we’ve made in terms of players we’ve let go and others that have decided to leave, have left us with a stable group.

“We’ve got players who want to be here and are going to be positive while they’re here.

“On Saturday, the boys showed they’re in it for each other, they’re in it for this club, which is what we’ve been looking for and have kind of missed the mark on a few times.
