Hunt on Sundowns riches: 'Their kit man earns much more than us'

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt believes Mamelodi Sundowns' wealth puts them on a higher level than the rest of the teams in the DStv Premiership following his side's 1-0 loss to the Brazilians on Monday.

The 58-year-old praised Masandawana's strength in player depth, noting that the defending champions are well-stocked in quality.

Hunt, a four-time Premiership winner, hinted that Sundowns' deep pockets make them a challenging prospect to play against each time.

"The club has gone to another level; it's fantastic," Hunt told reporters after the match.

"You've got to commend them. They put their money where their mouth is, and they go for it, so it's fantastic.

"There are players out there [in the Sundowns squad]; I wouldn't want to tell you what some of them earn.

"Their kit man earns much more than us," said Hunt.

The win put the Brazilians (43) in a 14-point log lead over second-place Richards Bay (29), while SuperSport (27), in third place, are 16 points adrift from the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Hunt admitted that he has to be realistic about where he wants his side to finish the season.

He believes there is a big fight between the teams that could finish in second and third place in the league.

"You take into consideration budgets, whose spending more than you, and you combine who's bought and who hasn't bought.

"We haven't spent one rand this year, not one rand. I haven't bought one player. So, I think we're punching okay."

SuperSport return to action against Richards Bay on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
