Hungarian GP: George Russell produces stunning lap to seal first-ever F1 pole

George Russell sealed his first-ever Formula 1 pole position on Saturday afternoon, as he produced a stellar lap to stun the Ferraris at the Hungaroring.

The Mercedes driver has had a fine year so far in his first campaign with the Silver Arrows, and he could go into the summer break as a Formula 1 race winner, should he convert pole into victory tomorrow afternoon.

Alongside Russell will be Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari, with the Monegasque looking to make amends for the mistake he made in France and try and close the gap down at least a little to Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ standings before the few weeks’ break ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of August.

Norris has been having another impressive race weekend with him going quickly in every practice section, whilst the McLaren has looked poised and balanced in the twisty sections of the Hungaroring, underlined by team-mate Daniel Ricciardo also being in the top ten with him lining up in P9.

On row four, meanwhile, are Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
