Hundreds of kids enjoy footballing fun with Heston Rovers' football festival in Dumfries

Hundreds of children enjoyed a weekend of footballing fun in Dumfries.

Heston Rovers hosted the football festival on their pitches at Maryfield on Westfield Road with 161 teams from 46 clubs playing across the two days.

There were plenty of local teams in action as well as squads from as far afield as Renfrew, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Edinburgh.

Players ranging from five-years-old to 12 were divided into age groups with younger players enjoying seven-minute games with older kids playing 14-minute matches across two gloriously sunny days.

A Heston spokesman said: “Our annual festival took place for its 19th year at Maryfield and we had 161 teams from 46 clubs showcasing their football over the weekend.

“It was a fantastic festival in wonderful weather and everyone did us proud.

“We want to thank every club who showed an interest in coming to support our festival.

“There have been many hours behind the scenes in the past weeks to prepare for the festival from cutting grass, marking out and lining pitches for four different sizes, ensuring all goals and nets are usable, food and drinks, ensuring facilities were tidy, sorting and correcting last minute changes to teams and fixtures.

“All this is put in by a hand full of people outside of their full time jobs.

“Thank you to them all.”
