Hull FC's Andre Savelio ruled out for the season following derby injury

Brett Hodgson has revealed Andre Savelio will miss the remainder of the season through injury. Savelio was withdrawn at half-time in Good Friday’s derby clash with Hull KR after hearing a pop in his knee midway through the first half at Craven Park.

Scan results over the weekend have shown he has ruptured his ACL and he will be required to go under the knife in the coming weeks. The back-rower has struggled with knee injuries in the past and he is facing another lengthy and arduous recovery period.

“Andre has done his ACL,” the head coach confirmed after watching his side’s win over Warrington Wolves. “Unfortunately he’s going to be out for the season. He’ll have an operation in a few weeks.

“He’s disappointed, he only found out today, as did we. It’s heart-breaking for him.

“He played 25 minutes with it which is amazing to be fair but unfortunately it’s just one of those things. We’re gutted for him.”

The Black and Whites were forced to dig deep on Easter Monday to claim a much-needed two points at the MKM Stadium with an 18-16 victory over Warrington. Tries from Jamie Shaul and Brad Fash came in the first half but FC needed Manu Ma’u to crash over with around three minutes remaining to take the spoils on the day.

It wasn’t always pretty, but Hodgson was delighted with his side’s ability to dig deep and snatch the result which bucked their three-game losing streak.

“It’s one of the things that we spoke about over the weekend,” Hodgson said of FC’s grit. “I would have been worried over the last three games had we not had effort but effort was there in spades.
