Hull FC's Adam Swift singled out for praise after finding form early

Hull FC boss Brett Hodgson is more than happy with the way Adam Swift has started the new season. Swift was one of FC’s brightest performers last year as he finally found consistency and form in a black and white shirt and it’s fair to say he has hit the ground running once more this time around.

Tries have come in games against Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos but the winger’s ability and willingness to come inside and make the hard yards is what has pleased his head coach most. Swift has made over 150 metres in each of his last two outings and with some crucial fixtures to be played over the next month, Hodgson is keen to see him continue his progress.

“He’s huge,” Hodgson said when asked about the 29-year-old. “He’s quite a funny character and he brings out the best in terms of our enjoyment of training as well.

“The work he is doing in backfield is huge for us and you could probably add Josh Griffin to that as well. I think with Swifty being moved to the right edge, we had that balance of Swifty on the right and Griffin on the left and they were supported by the other two boys around them.

“I think the way Adam has contributed to the start of the season has been excellent and just where he left off at the back end of last year. He could probably do with a little bit more help from a couple of our boys, who we’re challenging, but ultimately it’s been a very good start to the season for Swifty.”

The winger has been named in the squad to take on Sheffield Eagles this weekend in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup and with Hodgson expected to name a strong team, Swift could be set to play a key role at Post Office Road.
