Hull FC Reserves show clinical edge in Reserves Derby win over Hull KR

Hull FC defeated Hull KR 24-10 in the first Reserves Derby for five years. The hosts were too strong and were the most clinical team when it mattered most, scoring five tries to two at Brantingham Park.

After a shaky start, the Black and Whites soon built up a lead over Rovers, who just didn't see any good ball in the first half. That changed after the break with the away side having more opportunities to score. However, they couldn't make that territory count with the taking of chances the biggest difference between the two sides.

At fullback, Davy Litten impressed for Hull FC with his kick returns and ball playing ability, with the two wingers Harvey Barron and Lewis Martin getting through plenty of work in the back field. Both carried the ball strong and both have some serious pace about them. Of course, Denive Balmforth played his part, controlling the ruck before having a stint as loose man, with halfbacks Callum Rutland and Mackenzie Harman doing enough, thanks in part to two superb lines from Connor Gilbey, to get the points on the board.

For Rovers, Phoenix Laula-Togaga'e proved a nuisance with the ball. Son of Quentin, the young fullback was good on his feet and caused Hull some problems. Adam Rusling was also a threat from scrum half, with Max Kirkbright and Leo Tennison having their moments.

It was a tasty Derby affair as you'd expect at any level, and the collusions were felt in the stands with both sides fronting up, but it was Hull who had the better of the game as they recorded a solid victory in front of a fair crowd.

Out of the two sides, though, it was Rovers who certainly settled their nerves better early on.
