Hull City send message to Jarrod Bowen after maiden England call-up

Gareth Southgate says former Hull City star Jarrod Bowen “thoroughly deserves” his first senior England call-up, after it was confirmed on Tuesday that the West Ham ace would be joining up with the camp later this month.

Bowen and fellow uncapped player, Leicester defender James Justin, have been included in Southgate’s squad for next month’s Nations League matches, while there was also a recall for another ex-Tiger in the shape of Fikayo Tomori, fresh from his Serie A title win with AC Milan.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was included in Southgate's latest squad, becoming the third former Tiger involved in the Three Lions set-up.

“Constantly strong performances," Southgate said of Bowen's call-up. "We were certainly thinking about involving him in March before he got injured.

"He’s a goal threat and his direct journey is an interesting reminder that you don’t have to be at an elite academy – experience is a great route to go. He works incredibly hard for the team, which we want all our players to do. He thoroughly deserves his call-up.”

Bowen and Justin were the standout inclusions in Southgate’s squad for the four Nations League games, with trips to Hungary and Germany followed by Molineux encounters with Italy and Hungary - the latter of which will be played behind closed doors as punishment from UEFA for the trouble at the European Championship finals at Wembley last summer.
