Hull City man makes frank admission about his future after club’s win over Coventry

Hull City captain Richard Smallwood has admitted that whilst he is keen to stay at the MKM Stadium, a decision has yet to be made by the club regarding his future.

Whereas Smallwood’s current contract is set to expire following the culmination of the current campaign, the Tigers do possess the option to trigger a one year extension to this deal.

Smallwood marked his latest appearance for Hull by scoring in their 2-0 victory over Coventry City.

The 31-year-old fired an effort past goalkeeper Simon Moore to give his side the lead in this fixture.

Ryan Longman then added a second for the Tigers who climbed up to 19th in the Championship standings as a result of this triumph.

Hull will now be looking to back up this win by producing a positive performance in their meeting with Luton Town this weekend.

Following his side’s latest display in the Championship, Smallwood offered an honest assessment on his current situation at the club.

Speaking to Hull Live about his future, Smallwood said: “I’ve not heard anything from the club as yet, they’ve got an option on me.

“I’m just trying to take it game by game and hopefully my performances on the pitch do the talking, and off the pitch gets sorted because of my performances.

“But nothing has come of it yet.”

Asked about whether he wanted to stay at Hull, Smallwood added: “Yes, of course.

“I’m having a great time, there’s a real good feel-factor and the club want to push on and I want to be a part of that, who knows?

“I’m not too sure if the club want to keep me or not, hopefully the discussions come sooner rather than later because it would be nice to go into the summer knowing what my situation is going to be.”
