Hull City head coach Shota Arveladze bags terrific goal for Rangers

Shota Arveladze rolled back the years on Saturday showing the type of striker’s instinct he’ll hope to inspire in his players for the remaining seven games of the Championship season.

The Hull City head coach scored the opening goal for a Rangers legends side at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, as the Glasgow club continued their 150th-anniversary celebrations, his deft header at the near post from a pinpoint Ronald de Boer cross from the right-hand side, showing that even at the age of 49, you never lose that ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

Despite putting Rangers a goal in front just before half-time in front of 40,000 fans at Ibrox, Luis Figo’s World XI went on to win the contest 3-2, though Paul Gascoigne's emotional cameo towards the end saw him claw a goal back for the Gers before picking up the Man of the Match award.

Barely three minutes had been played when Arveladze’s sloppy control drew ironic jeers from a crowd in playful, party mood, though those quickly turned to rapturous cheers when the number seven flung himself to meet a perfect de Boer cross to head in the net.

Tigers fans were quick to notice and there plenty of quips about him becoming player/manager and getting himself in the squad for this Friday night's clash with Huddersfield Town under the MKM Stadium lights - training on Monday morning will be amusing, that's for sure!

"I’m happy to be back at Ibrox today for the Match Of Legends," the City boss wrote on Twitter. "Incredible feeling to play with this shirt and score for @rangersfc again. The energy from the fans was amazing. Thanks for this great assist my brother @ronald_de_boer_.
