Hulk: When ex-Porto man shut racist Benfica fans up with 108km/h thunderbolt
Football has a serious racism problem and it’s been an issue for quite a while.
There have been numerous instances of players being racially abused on the football pitch in the past.
Hulk is one man that has been subject to vile taunts from supporters in the past.
In fact, speaking in 2015, Hulk revealed that he encountered racism in almost every game while playing for Zenit St Petersburg.
“Usually it [racism] happens when Russian clubs play and it doesn’t come out to the world and the world doesn’t know about this,” He said, per The Guardian.
“I must say that almost every game I see this happening. I used to get angry, but now I see this doesn’t help, so I just send a kiss to our fans and try not to get angry.”
Unfortunately, a few years prior to that revelation, Hulk was also the subject of racism while playing for FC Porto.
On March 3, 2012, Hulk was in Porto’s starting line-up for their Primeira Liga match against Benfica at Estádio Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
In the 7th minute, some Benfica supporters produced some vile monkey chants when Hulk picked up the ball on the right-hand side.
Hulk immediately silenced those racist fans with a piece of individual brilliance.
He ran at a defender, cut inside and then unleashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner from a tight angle.
The goal looks brilliant in fan footage. View it below…
