Huge road closure in place and two rushed to hospital after horror crash

A huge road closure was put in place on a main road in Bolton after a crash, with two people rushed to hospital.

Police, paramedics and fire crews attended the incident on Tonge Moor Road at around 4pm on Sunday (February 9).

The road was closed off as emergency crews worked at the scene. Three vehicles were involved, with five people treated by paramedics at the scene. Two others were rushed to hospital.

Pictures from the scene showed debris strewn over the road with one car left with a visibly smashed side door and crushed bumper.

Further details about the collision or condition of those involved have not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just after 4pm today (Sunday 9 February), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Tonge Moor Road in Bolton.

“Two fire engines from Bolton and Bolton North and the technical response unit from Leigh attended the incident which involved three vehicles.

“The crew arrived quickly and worked to make the vehicles and the area safe. Five people were treated at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance service before two were conveyed to hospital. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately seventy-five minutes.”
