Huge police response and cordon in place amid incident on Ashton Old Road - live updates

There is a huge police response and cordon in place amid an ongoing incident in Openshaw this evening (October 11).

Police and paramedics are currently at the scene of the incident on Ashton Old Road (A635) beside the Morrisons Petrol Station amid unconfirmed reports of a collision.

Witnesses have reported seeing detectives present at the scene. Pictures shared with the Manchester Evening News show a number of police vehicles beside the Halfords Autocentre.

The main road is currently blocked off between Lees Street and Victoria Street. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for further details.

Police cordoned off the main road in Openshaw on Wednesday night (October 11) amid reports of a person being struck by a car.

The incident sparked a huge emergency services response, including police and paramedics, on Ashton Old Road (A635). There are unconfirmed reports it was a 'hit and run.'

An eyewitness has just told us that Lees Street, a road off Ashton Old Road is also blocked by police this evening.

The latest update from live traffic service Inrix says: "A635 Ashton Old Road in both directions closed due to accident from Cornwall Street to Lees Street."

An eyewitness reportedly saw a person 'lying in the road' at around 8pm this evening.

They just told us: "I just missed the incident. I was walking to Morrisons with my little girl in her pram and by the time I got out and back onto the street, there was ambulance and a person on the floor."
