Huge fire destroys buildings after ripping through town centre - live updates
This is the scene of devastation after fire crews tackled a huge blaze in the centre of Abergavenny. The buildings continued to smoke on Monday morning after the blaze started at the back of a shop on Frogmore Street on Sunday night.
Gwent Police said that it started at the back of The Magic Cottage Charity Shop at around 8.35pm. Crews from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the scene dealing to deal with the major fire.
Footage from the town shows an intense fire with flames rising high into the area. Police confirmed that a number of nearby houses were evacuated with Abergavenny Leisure Centre in Old Hereford Road being set up as a reception centre for those impacted.
A spokesperson for the force said: "No injuries have been reported."
A cordon is in place which covers Frogmore Street, Regent Street, Princes Street and Baker Street. The cordon is in place as a safety precaution and will be for some time.
