Huge blow: Aston Villa dealt late Leicester injury setback, its bad news for Gerrard – opinion

Aston Villa have been dealt with a late injury blow as they take on Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

With Lucas Digne still sidelined following an operation on his collarbone, Steven Gerrard confirmed (via BirminghamLive) on Friday the news that Kortney Hause, Morgan Sanson, and Bertrand Traore will also still be missing this afternoon.

With this triple injury blow playing havoc with his squad, Gerrard spoke about introducing youth. He said: “There will be a couple of youngsters involved tomorrow which will be a good opportunity for them, some valuable experience.”

Villa are currently going through a four-match winless run in the Premier League and missing key players will come as a huge blow to Gerrard, especially facing a strong Leicester side.

Centre-back Hause has missed the last five matches for Villa through injury and hasn’t featured for the side since January. Sanson hasn’t featured as much as he would have liked, limited to just one league start since January as Gerrard is obviously still looking to find his best midfield combination.

Traore has struggled under Gerrard, featuring only three times since the former England captain took over at Villa Park in November.

The supporters might be worried about the strength in depth at Gerrard’s disposal. The three injury absentees haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire at Villa, yet with them missing, the manager feels the need to introduce a couple of youngsters to the squad.

This may be a way of slowly bedding in talent before next season as he will surely be aiming to rejig his playing squad and with a full summer transfer window ahead, it’s an exciting time to be a Villa supporter.
