Huge blaze in Bury now under control after fire ripped through plastic in storage unit

A huge blaze which ripped through plastic in a storage unit in Bury is now under control.

Crews worked overnight to tackle the fire which broke out in a single-storey commercial building on Milltown Street in Radcliffe. Eight fire engines were called to the scene, as well as police, paramedics, council officials and the air unit.

A large plume of black smoke could be spotted billowing from the fire, with people from all over Greater Manchester taking to social media to share pictures of the cloud. Residents were urged to keep their windows and doors shut as crews worked at the 'well-alight' building.

In an update posted at 7.30am, Station Manager Paul Vester, in charge at the incident this morning, said: "The swift and professional response of our crews meant that we were able to get on top of this incident quickly and then work throughout the night to bring it under control.

The fire involved a large quantity of plastic in a single-storey detached storage unit, and I want to praise the efforts of our crews who worked in challenging conditions to contain the blaze and prevent any further
