Huddersfield Town still have shot at cup success as Stoke City set to visit John Smith's Stadium

The Terriers may be out of the FA Cup after Monday evening’s 2-1 defeat away to Nottingham Forest, but fans looking for a fix of cup fever can still get it at the John Smith’s Stadium on Wednesday night.

Huddersfield Town B team will be in action against Stoke City under-23s in the Premier League Cup round of 16 in a 7pm kick off.

The game is a one-off knockout tie and will be settled on the night even if that means extra time and penalties.

Jon Worthington’s side went undefeated in the group stage, drawing away to Newcastle but winning all five of their other games to come top of group G, which also included Watford and Birmingham City.

Only West Bromwich Albion scored more goals than Town’s 18 over the group stages, and no other side conceded as few as Town’s three.

Five sides have already qualified for the quarter-finals after playing their round of 16 games last week: Peterborough, Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and West Bromwich Albion.

Town’s clash with the Potters is a good chance for Town fans to see the likes of in-form wingers Pat Jones and Danny Grant in action; while first-teamers Scott High and Aaron Rowe have also made appearances for the B team recently and are eligible to play.

Town regulars in the Premier League Cup so far have included talented youngsters Etienne Camara, Loick Ayina and Brodie Spencer.

Each side is also permitted to field three over-age outfield players and an overage goalkeeper.

Tickets are available for £5 for adults and £2 for children with turnstiles opening from 6:30pm. White Rose Club members can sit in the directors’ box for £10 for adults and £5 for children.

The Premier League Cup began in 2013 and was designed to be an older-age equivalent to the FA Youth
