Huddersfield preparations spot on despite coach Ian Watson isolating

Huddersfield coach Ian Watson guided the Giants to a 30-16 win over Leeds in a stand on his own because he was isolating due to sickness.

Watson watched the four-placed Giants’ 10th league win in isolation due to an unspecified illness. He was the only spectator at the Fantastic Media Stand end of the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Giants continued their strong start to the season by scoring four of their five tries in the first half against the Rhinos.

Huddersfield assistant coach Luke Robinson said he always believed Huddersfield’s preparations would be spot on despite Watson’s self-imposed touchline ban.

Robinson said: “Watto was there for the vast majority of the week.

“He gets a lot of his work done at the beginning of the week. I just put a cherry on top at the end.

“The cake was pretty much made before he got ill. One thing that makes him an unbelievable coach is everyone knows their role.

“So, when he does step away we all know what he expects, what he wants, how he wants his team to play.

“Even though he was sat in the stand giving messages I kind of knew what the message was going to be before it got to me.”

Huddersfield are not in action next weekend due to the international break. England take on the Combined Nations All Stars at Warrington, whilst France host Wales in Albi.
